A note about the minimum buy-in at $4/$8. $200 in white can take up a lot of space, so you might buy one rack of white and a stack of red. Also, cash plays in all the Biloxi poker rooms. I generally buy a rack to play and put another $60-$100 in cash under in case I hit a big hand while in a downswing.

Good post.

Great points Ignatius! You are absolutely right. I really like your idea about keeping the extra cash under your chips, rather than buying in for $200. The couple of times I bought in for $200 (a rack and a stack like you mentioned) I had a few people say something along the lines of “ohhh this guy’s serious” or “he came to play”. It seemed to affect my table image immediately.

When I’m playing and see someone buy in for $200+ I watch them closely and tighten up my range against them. I think by keeping an extra hundred under your stack you don’t draw that kind of attention.

I’d much rather people think I’m just there to have a good time rather than to take their money. :)

Thanks for the tip!
