Tomorrow, May 1, 2008 the Island View Casino Gulfport unveils their brand new poker room. I just got back from getting a sneak peak at their new facility. I was also able to snag some info on their promotions, tournaments, comps, etc.
The room was busy with new dealers and other poker room staff getting ready for tomorrow. They’ve done a good job recruiting some familiar faces from various Biloxi and Bay St. Louis poker rooms.
I had a chance to speak briefly with Island View Poker Room Manger, William Vineyard. Although he was very busy, he was gracious enough to take a few minutes to discuss the grand opening with me.
In this post, I’ll share with you a first look at what the Island View Poker Room will be doing to set itself apart from other poker rooms. I’ll also share with you their Grand Opening promotion, which you don’t want to miss.
Island View Poker Room Mini Review
I’ll be heading to Gulfport tomorrow for the Island View Poker Room grand opening. I hope to grab any fliers they have on upcoming promotions and tournaments, as well as, do a full poker room review. In the mean time, I have a few things to share with you about the Gulf Coast’s latest poker room.
Basic poker room info
Number of Tables: 9
Rake: Standard 10% up to $5 (no time rake)
Food Comps: Table side menu, which includes sandwiches, wraps, hotdogs, and deserts
Poker Tournaments: As of right now, they will be offering NL Hold’em tournaments Monday through Wednesday at 6:30pm. I’ll have more info on these once the fliers are printed.
How the Island View Poker Room will set itself apart from the competition
Poker Game variety
The Island View Poker Room will offer the only $2/$4 Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em game on the coast. In this game, the blinds will be $1-$2, with a $2 bet on the flop, and $4 on the turn and river. This is the lowest live game I’ve ever heard of. It should be a great game for new (and existing) players with a limited bankroll.
They will also offer a variety of Omaha games including Pot Limit Omaha and $4/$8 Omaha High/Low with a half-kill.
The Best Bad Beat Around
A bigger jackpot is not always better. Poker rooms are increasingly making jackpots harder to hit, but the Island View is different. They are making their bad beat jackpot the easiest on the coast. It’s Aces Full of Tens beaten by anything (provided both cards play, and the full house has an Ace in their hand).
Island View Poker Room’s grand opening promotion
I promised you a promo and here it is! Tomorrow (Thursday May 1st, 2008), starting at 12pm Noon, they will give the first 100 poker players $60 in chips for just $40. They’re paying you $20 just to show up and play some cards! I imagine they’ll have a good turnout from poker playing retirees, students, and people like me who don’t have a real job.
So, if you get a chance, stop by the Island View and check out their new poker room. I’ll be there tomorrow for a few hours. If you’re planning a trip yourself, leave a comment here or in the poker forum, and I’ll be on the lookout for you.
