Florida PokerEarlier this April, a bill designed to expand the availability of poker at Florida parimutuels, passed through a state Senate committee by an 8-2 vote.

Want to know what the heck this has to do with the WSOP, WPT, and Celebs?

More hours and more tourneys for Florida poker players

This bill will increase the hours that poker rooms are able to operate from 12 hours to 18 hours on weekdays, and up to 24 hours on weekends. It will also legalize high stakes poker tournaments.

This is where the WSOP, WPT, and Celebs come in

For the first time ever, Florida will be be able to host large buy-in poker tournaments like the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour. The bill would allow for two large buy-in (up to $10,000) poker tournaments per year. These tournaments would be capped at 1,000 entrants.

It would also allow for up to six charity or celebrity poker tournaments per year, as long as at least 70% of the proceeds go to a charitable organization.

So what’s next for Florida Poker?

We all know that poker is booming along the Gulf Coast. Hopefully, Florida’s legislators will see the potential too. This bill still has to pass through two more committees before it goes for a Senate vote.

What are your thoughts on this bill? Do you think it will pass?
