Hi slow98zx2, welcome to GCP!

Are you new to poker in general, or just new to playing live casino poker?

If you already have a basic grasp on playing Texas Hold'em, I'm posting a beginner's guide to casino poker, tomorrow. Here's an overview of what it will cover.

    -Choosing which game to play
-How to get in a casino poker game
    -How much to buy-in for
    -Getting comps
-Following the action - How to check, bet, and call
    -Poker etiquette
    -Tipping
    -Other casino poker differences
    -Knowing and understanding your opponents
-How to look and feel like a pro by doing this chip trick

If you have any more specific questions regarding playing live poker, please post them and I will do my best to add them to my guide.

You are welcome! I know it's a long read, but I tried to cover most of the things that gave me grief when I first started playing casino poker. If you have any more specific questions please don't hesitate to ask.

ok lets see if i read right.. so lets say in Structured play to bet on the flop is only twice the amount of the big blind and to raise would be 3x's the big blind?

No, in a structured limit game, the flop bet is equal to the big blind. So, in a 3/6 game the big blind is $3. On the flop the bet is $3. On the turn and river the bet doubles to $6.

For example (still in a 3/6 game) , you have AK and want to smooth call, it's $3 preflop. If you want to raise you have to make it $6. If someone re-raises they have to make it $9. On the flop it's the same structure ($3 bet, $6 raise, $9 re-raise). On the river the min/max bet doubles to $6 ($6 bet, $12 raise, $18 re-raise) .

My apologies if my wording was unclear in the article. I hope this example makes more sense. If not, let me know.

I know what you mean. It's a much more exciting game. It's also much riskier. Personally, I may quit playing live until I have the roll for NL.

Anyway, make sure you let us know how your first casino run goes!
