I know Harrah's in New Orleans doesn't allow Mp3 players. Since we don't play there very often it's never been an issue.

Lately, we've been playing at the Silver Slipper because of the good limit games (lately we've been getting a good 4/8 Omaha Hi game going too). They're also very generous with comps and even bring pizza and cookies into the poker room for players.

While playing last night I decided to rock the Ipod because the table was quiet and the slot machines were loud. After a good hour or so (and a few dealer changes) listening to the Ipod, I'm told by a dealer that they're not allowed. When I went and asked the Floor, she confirmed that they "do not allow headphones while playing". When I asked why, all she could say was "that's just the rule".

I understand that all rules have some purpose, but shouldn't the management have a better explanation than "that's just the rule"?

I've always thought the Ipod Rule was a bit crazy. The only logic I can see in it is that perhaps it would distract the player from hearing what the dealer is saying (calling the action, etc). I feel confident that the Slipper poker room staff didn't recognize a big problem with headphones and decide to establish the rule.

It seems much more likely that new poker rooms (or upper management) go through and randomly pick rules they "think" will benefit the room most. Hints why the staff can't give a reasonable explanation about weird rules like "no Ipods at the table".

Anyone know the reason Mp3 players are banned by some poker rooms? Can rules like these be changed with enough support?

i would think that some may think its method of cheating, as if maybe someone were telling you their hole cards or something like that, and your listening through your earphone. just a thought, i dont know why that rule is. it doesnt affect me cause i dont have an ipod, and i wouldn't listen to it at the table anyway.

Yeah, I thought of that too. If that were the case wouldn't they just need to verify that it's a music player only (and ban phone ear pieces)?

Most of the time I don't use it either. Usually, I like to be social and pay attention to what players are saying. This particular table wasn't talking much so I decided to jam out. It really helps me focus and have a better mindset. The only thing I worry about is how it affects my table image (and how people play against me).

Some people seem to believe that having headphones on makes you an "internet punk". IMO, guys wearing shades at a 4/8 limit table look worse than people with an IPOD lol. 8)

I haven't been able to find out much about the rule yet. I'm surprised our buddy Fred hasn't jumped in on this one.
