Finally! The Island View Casino in Gulfport is getting a poker room. It opens tomorrow, May 1st. I went and hung out there today and talked to the Manager and a few dealers. They are running a promo tomorrow starting at 12 noon where you get $60 in chips for $40. You can get more details in this post: New Island View Casino Poker Room

I plan on going for a couple of hours.

Anyone else gonna check it out?

I went yesterday and they were slammed. I played Omaha Hi/lo and Charlene played the 2/4 Hold'em. After several hours and some food we broke even.

To answer your question Brent, they told me it was no max in the NL game. NL is also the ONLY game where cash on the table plays.

Anyone going this weekend?

It was 4/8 Omaha Hi/Lo w/ half-kill. When there was a kill it went to a 6/12 game. Last night they started playing a round of Hold'em, Omaha High, and Omaha Hi/Lo. I'm going to see if they'll start spreading H.O.R.S.E :) They had 2-3 1/2 NL games going, a couple of 4/8 Hold'em tables, and a couple of 2/4 Limit tables.

At one point, they started an interest list for a 6/12 Limit game that never got going.

Good luck if you go!

Is the 4/8 Omaha hi/lo a regular game at the Island View? I've just started playing the game and have been wanting to play in a live game but havent found one yet. Figured 4/8 would be a relatively cheap way to get some practice in.

Hi Daniel and Welcome to GCP!

As far as I know the 4/8 Omaha is still a regular game. I've just recently gotten big into Omaha Hi/Lo as well. To be perfectly honest, I enjoy the online Omaha Hi/Lo games online MUCH more than live. Here's why;

1) If you're trying to play a solid game it's really boring live, especially fixed limit.
2) Your experience is both more fun and cheaper online. I did well for a while playing the live 4/8 at the Island View. Then I hit a streak where any time I had the nut low, I got quartered and my nut highs got out drawn. I went through a couple hundred dollars quick. And that was playing quality hands.

I've really enjoyed the Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo tournaments on Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars. I've done well at them and usually play a couple at a time (along w/ a No Limit Holdem and HORSE tourney :D ) They have the tournaments starting at around $1 at FTP.

But, from the sound of things, you may already have online experience and just want to play live. That's the same way I was, but quickly found that I could make more playing online.

If you decide to give it a shot, I wish you the best of luck. Let us know how you do.
